About ACST
Association of Chemical Sensor in Taiwan (ACST) was founded in 1998. After more than 23 years of development, it has gradually become a large-scale professional organization in the field of sensing technology in Taiwan. The foundation of the association originated from the "Chemical Sensor Research Group" established by the National Science Council (currently the Ministry of Science and Technology) in 1998. Later, in order to encourage researchers from various laboratories to learn from each other, the first International Conference on Smart Sensors (ICSS) was held in Donghua University in January 1999. The second ICSS was organized by the Institute of Industrial Materials of Industrial Technology Research Institute in June 1999. The Institute of Industrial Materials also cooperated with East Asia Chemical The Sensor Symposium also held the 3rd International Conference on Smart Sensors. The 4th ICSS was held in the National Cheng Kung University Biomedical Engineering Institute in May 2000. After that, it has become an annual scientific and technological event in the domestic sensor industry across large scales year by year.
Up to now, the association has more than 200 registered permanent members, 300 perennial members, and nearly 30 industry members. The total number of members exceeds 500. The members include experts and scholars from industry, academia, and research. This association aims to promote technical exchanges among chemical sensing technology practitioners in various universities, research institutions and industries. This goal is achieved through the opportunities of holding chemical sensor technology seminars, international conferences ICSS and Four Seasons Industry-Academic Forum on a regular basis every year. In view of the government's promotion of 5+2 industry, Industry 4.0, AIoT and other policies in recent years, domestic sensing technology research has also been squarely recognized by all walks of life and is in the ascendant.
Therefore, the association has been led by Chairman Han-sheng Chuang to promote the association's physique since the new director and supervisor took office. In line with the new system, we hope to complete ACST 2.0 to cope with the global impact of the new crown pneumonia epidemic.
Based on the above considerations, Chairman Chuang has drawn three visions for the association from the inside out for the next ten years:
1. Strengthen the association and strategic alliances of various associations to become the leader of domestic sensing technology; 2. Provide abundant production, government, academic and research resource services, so that members can use it; 3. Continue to deepen the partnership with Japan and South Korea and expand international exchanges.
In this way, we hope to be the goal of our partners' efforts. The commendable part of the Allelopathic Association lies in the sound structure of the senior, Mesozoic, and young generations. At the same time, everyone recognizes that young members are an important asset of the Association. Therefore, we continue to deepen the cultivation of the grassroots young ethnic groups, so that the members of the Mesozoic and younger generations have the opportunity to take on the responsibility of the club. What an important task. It can be expected that in the future, making the entire community feel that the association attaches importance to members will be the goal of our continuous efforts.

ACST Publications and Conference News
Publication
In order to allow our many outstanding members to have the opportunity to be seen by everyone, the Association has published a double quarterly journal for the first time since January 2021. The association’s publications are mainly co-organized by the academic director Chien-Fu Chen, deputy academic director Tzong-Rong Ger, and Dr. Tien-Chun Tsai. We hope that through our own creation of the stage, we will provide a place where many outstanding scholars who work silently can shine. The resources of the association are limited. Today, when everyone is busy, it is not easy for this publication to be published smoothly. But I believe that this publication can be used as a starting point for our dream, and slowly build a network, so that every member of the association can be closely linked together. We hope that the establishment of this publication can set a milestone for the association, and it will continue to be passed on forever regardless of the changes in the board of directors and supervisors in the future, and become an important cultural asset of the association.

Mascot
This association is considered to be a fairly young non-profit organization in Taiwan. In order to cater to the trend of the new generation and activate the atmosphere of the association, we have also spawned our own mascot, "Sumi" under the hope of our members. Considering the nature of this association, Sumi itself represents the meaning of "fast" and "sensitive" pursued by sensing technology. The appearance integrates elements of sensing, energy, trend and affinity, and it is the popular king of the association with an overwhelming number of fans. Name: Sumi Birthday: 2020.10.19 Constellation: Libra Personality: lively, active, with strong curiosity Interest: Research Specialty: Exploring the essence of things Appearance characteristics: The antenna on the head is used for sensing, the tail is the source of electricity, the slim body and the smile on the face are friendly Origin of naming: fast and sensitive |
ACST Annual Activities
International Conference on Smart Sensors
By combining the annual meeting and the ICSS large-scale international symposium, we gather research scholars in related fields from various countries to conduct professional academic research and discussion. For example, the ICSS2020 International Smart Sensor Symposium was held at the National Sun Yat-sen University, inviting domestic and foreign scholars and experts to discuss emerging technologies such as smart sensing, including more than 250 domestic and foreign papers, and simultaneously publishing the latest research and development results to the world through the remote video conference system. Attracting more than 320 attendees, as well as more than 20 industry booths, provide an excellent technology and academic exchange and matching platform for scholars and the industry. |
Season Industry-University Forum
Four industry-academic forums are held every year, namely the spring conference, summer conference, autumn conference and winter conference. Each conference invites heavyweights in the fields of industry, research, and government to serve as speakers to achieve academic and industry-related exchanges. |
Industry Visits
The association invites members to visit sensor technology-related manufacturers or consortiums from time to time every year. Through on-site exchanges, they can understand the needs of the industry, so that academic members' research can be exported, and it can also help domestic industry upgrades. The most recent visit was in February 2021. The current Chairman Chuang led the members of the Association to the Institute of Biomedicine, Hsinchu Industrial Technology Research Institute for academic research exchanges. Participants included Association Chairman Han-sheng Chuang, Hsien-Chang Chang, Secretary-General Yu-Lin Wang, Zong-hong Lin, and the Institute of Biomedicine included Director Chii-Wann Lin, Deputy Director Ming-zhe Wang, Hui-ling Chen Team Leader, Kun-da Wu Project Deputy Team Leader, Ruo-ping LiProject Manager, and Zong-da Zheng management division and so on. The two parties exchanged views on the assistance provided by the TBIC and the association. |
Academic Medals and Scholarships
In order to encourage its members to pursue academic and technical excellence, the association initially set up academic medals, including "Academic Excellence Award", "Outstanding Paper Award", "Industrial Invention Award" and "Scholarship". Member applications and recommendations will be accepted from April every year, and the winners will be encouraged to receive awards at the annual allelopathic annual meeting after rigorous review. However, considering the innate restrictions on the research capacity of young scholars who are just starting out, the Association decided to add an additional "Outstanding Young Scholar Paper Award" at the Fourth Board of Directors and Supervisors Meeting of the 12th session, and the "Industrial Invention Award" was renamed "Industrial Invention Award". "Industrial Invention and Excellence Award" is awarded to the industry-academic members of the Association who have outstanding performance in biomedical or chemical sensor research. So far, more than 50 people have won awards. Among them, it is worth mentioning that the scholarship was established after the association’s senior member Dr. Pin-Pi Tsai selflessly donated 100,000 yuan, hoping to encourage the association’s outstanding master and doctoral students, and cultivate the association’s future research talents in the sensing technology sector. Three sessions.

Industry University Research Collaboration
International Cooperation
In view of the fact that the essence of academics lies in communication, in order to expand the international influence of the association and the visibility of its members in the world, after years of hard work, the 11th chairman of the association, Ching-Chou Wu, and the Korean Sensor Society (KSS) of Korea and Japan Japan Association of Chemical Sensors (JACS) respectively signed long-term cooperation memorandums to enhance friendship in international research. So far, we have invited mutual visits and invited lectures for more than three sessions through the ICSS International Conference. KSS and JACS are the largest domestic sensing technology academic groups in the two countries. The ability to reach a long-term exchange consensus with the two associations is indeed the most important step for the association to expand its influence internationally. In addition, the Association also regularly organizes International Symposium on Chemical–Environmental–Biomedical Technology (isCEBT) conferences with Tohoku University in Japan for a long time, and participates in Asian Conference on Sensors (ACCS) conferences held by Southeast Asian countries every two years. As one of the founding member units, actively contribute to Taiwan's international academic exchanges.
